Shrub, woody climber or tree to 6m with prickly branchlets & leaves, trifoliolate or imparipinnate leaves to 230mm long with 1-5 pairs of glabrous leaflets to 130mm x 47mm often with flattened prickles on midrib, terminal inflorescences sometimes axillary to 70mm long, male or female flowers, staminate flowers 2mm long with 6-7 green to yellow segments 1mm long, carpellate flowers 2mm long with segments as above, fruit follicles purplish-red to 5mm diameter
