Annual or perennial climbing or trailing twining herb, stems with ferrugineous hair or grey pubescence, trifoliate leaves central one mucronate to 125mm long, scabrous both sides with hairs, axillary racemes with setaceous bracteoles, to 12 flowers, red or yellowish, pinkish or purple corolla to 16mm, hairy calyx to 6mm, standard silky outside
