Twining, trailing or erect perennial to 800mm high with creeping rhizomes, glabrous stems and leaves, purplish leaves to 80mm x 35mm. Axillary inflorescences of 30mm greenish-yellow to pale mauve or purple flowers, calyx tube to 8mm long and 5-winged, with lobes as long or slightly longer, corolla about 30mm long, 10mm red-purple berries
