Large twining climbing hairy shrub to 16m with tetragonal rusty-tomentose branchlets, becoming glabrescent & corky. Coriaceous leaves to 150mm x 80mm glabrescent above & hairy beneath. Axillary & terminal hairy cymes or panicles to 300mm long with 6 white bracts to 45mm x 18mm turning purple-red, 6mm white or pale yellow flowers, 7 per head, turning purple-red, 5-6 lobed calyx to 1mm x 5mm with pubescent lobes, 5-6 lobed pale yellow corolla becoming pink to deep red to 9mm long with puberulous lobes. Fruit a glabrous capsule or drupe to 8mm diameter with accrescent calyx
