High-climbing woody liana, sometimes shrubby, lenticellate & hairy, armed with recurved prickles to 5mm long. Leaves to 140mm x 60mm sparsely tomentose above & hairy beneath & with 2mm long prickles beneath. Terminal & lateral racemes to 17mm long with 10 pale lavender to purple 35mm wide flowers, calyx tube 5mm long with 5 lobes 5mm long becoming 10mm x 6mm in fruit. glabrous within & brown hairs outside, pale lavender to lavender-purple corolla to 35mm long with lobes 15mm x 6mm glabrous within & tomentose outside. Fruit a globose berry to 15mm diameter & sparsely tomentose
