Thorny glabrous liana, scandent shrub or herbaceous vine with tendrils, recurved spines to 5mm long, aerial roots, verruculose branchlets. Coriaceous mucronulate leaves to 270mm x 170mm. Axillary umbels or racemes to 130mm long with 3-lobed bracts to 15mm long, with 15-20 flowers, with 3-lobed bracts to 15mm long & bracteoles to 1mm long, green flowers to 6mm, male umbels to 60 flowers, male tepals to 6mm long x 1.5mm wide, female umbels with 5-10 flowers. Berry to 14mm diameter, yellow, orange or red, occasionally black
