Climbing or trailing unarmed or prickly bulbous vine with glabrous armed stems, zig-zag branchlets. Leathery leaves to 100mm x 35mm with tendrils. Axillary umbels with bracts or bracteoles to 0.7mm long, male umbels to 30 flowers, females to 10 flowers. Staminate greenish or creamy-white fragrant flowers to 8mm long with sepals to 5mm long & petals to 4mm long., pistillate flowers with sepals to 2.5mm long. Red-purple or black fruit to 8mm diameter
