Herbaceous dioecious hairy bifid-tendril vine with tuberous perennial roots, tendrils to 120mm long, leaves sometimes lobed to 230mm x 170mm , axillary male racemes with pubescent bracts to 3mm long, of 15mm long yellow flowers, 5 pubescent sepals 7mm x 2mm, 5 yellowish petals 23mm x 7mm, female flowers solitary or up to 5 in axillary racemes to 130mm long with bracts 3mm x 0.8mm, 5-lobed calyx 9mm x 3,5mm with pubecent tips, 5 yellowish petals 25mm x 8mm, pubescent 110mm long x 80mm yellow-brown or red to black velvety fruit with 6 or more longitudinal stripes
