Dioecious shrub or treelet, sometimes semi-scandent to 15m, young branches with brownish stellate hairs. Leaves to 300mm x 170mm, few stellate hairs on veins above, lower surface covered with stellate hairs, dentate or crenate margins. Male cymes to 70mm long, female cymes to 30mm long with 15-25 flowers covered in golden-brown or greyish hairs. Male floral pubescent cup to 3mm x 7mm, 4-6 triangular tepals to 3mm long, female floral cup densely pubescent, tepals to 5mm long. Globose hairy fruit to 20mm diameter, crowned with persistent tepals, maturing dull red with white spots & astringent odour.
