Scrambling rhizomatous vining sedge, culms to 10m long, glabrous or sparsely pilose & ribbed. Leaves to 600mm x 14mm mainly glabrous above, spiny beneath. Axillary panicles of brown flowers, pistillate spikelets to 7mm x 3mm, staminate spikelets to 4mm x 2mm. Purple achenes to 5mm x 2.5mm
