Sometimes climbing perennial rhizomatous herb to 7m with angular scabrous stems. Leaves to 300mm x 8mm, hirsute above, hirsute to glabrous beneath with vicious cutting edges. Terminal & axillary panicles to 60mm x 50mm, pilose spikelets to 6mm long, yellow-green or purple flowers. 5mm long pubescent white achenes sometimes with greenish spots, nut 3mm diameter
