Climbing, trailing or scrambling prickly shrub to 3m high with tomentose to glabrate branches with recurved prickles, 3-5 lobed leaves to 150mm x 130mm, hairy both surfaces, prickly on middle nerve beneath, rusty-brown beneath with serrate margins. Axillary & terminal prickly racemes or panicles to 100mm long pinnatipartite bracts, white flowers with triangular sepals to 9mm x 7mm with 2-6 teeth to 3mm, white petals to 10mm x 8mm, orange to red drupe to 8mm dia., with persistent sepals
