Semideciduous, prickly lianoid shrub with straggling brown-yellow hairy stems when young, sparse recurved thorns, serrulated hairy leaves to 120mm x 80mm, shallowly 3-5-lobed. Terminal or axillary pubescent cymose panicles to 200mm of 9mm diameter white flowers & red, orange-red or yellow glabrous, calyx with a short tube and lobes to 7mm long, petals to 5mm long, aggregate fruit to 9mm diameter
