Spiny scandent or erect straggling glabrous biennial shrub with furrowed & angled red or purple stems to 3m long & recurved prickles, 3-5-foliolate leaves, doubly serrate leaflets, pilose above & pubescent beneath, median leaflet 120mm long, outer leaflets 10mm long, floral branches with 3-foliolate leaves with leaflets to 100mm long. Terminal or axillary racemes to 200mm long with bracts, 15mm white flowers, sepals villous without & tomentose within to 8mm long, corolla to 30mm across, white or pink petals to 20mm long, black sweet fruit to 28mm long
