Liana, erect shrub or tree with pubescent stems, denticulate glabrous leaves or hairy on nerves beneath. Terminal or axillary panicles to 300mm long, red or reddish-brown flowers with tiny bracts, calyx to 4mm long slightly coriaceous, 4 petals to 4.5mm long. Fruit a black berry to 7mm diameter
