Erect armed shrub or tree or occasionally climbing or creeping woody shrub to 3.3m with glabrous or pubescent branchlets becoming glabrous. Glabrous or pilose coriaceous denticulate leaves to 210mm x 160mm, hairy beneath, margins usually entire, rarely serrate. Dense terminal many-flowered minutely hairy or glabrous corymbs or panicles to 240mm x 125mm with bracts, of yellowish-green or white flowers with hairy throat & offensive smell, toothed green to yellow-white pubescent calyx to 2mm x 1.5mm with 0-5 lobes, corolla white villous inside puberulous outside, corolla tube to 5mm x 2mm with 4 greenish-white lobes to 3.5mm x 2mm, limb 3mm long. Fruit a glabrous, sometimes warty black or purple drupe to 8mm x 5mm, fruiting calyx to 4mm long.
