Scabrous twining liana to 30m or shrub to 2m with densely puberulent branchlets, petioles & pedicels. Leathery leaves to 200mm x 100mm. Terminal & axillary racemes to 450mm long of lilac to purple or blue flowers, pubescent blue or pale blue calyx, tube to 5mm x 5mm with glabrous lobes to 17mm x 10mm, violet or purplish corolla 10mm long, corolla tube to 5mm long, puberulent outside pubescent inside. Fruit has persistent calyx
