Large woody climber to 7m climbing by means of older petioles or tendrils, with quadrangular or tetragonal puberulent becoming glabrescent branchlets. 3-foliolate leaves, middle leaflet to 140mm x 78mm, lateral leaflets to 120mm x 75mm, glabrous above & sometimes hairy on midrib beneath. Terminal & axillary puberulent panicles or cymes to 400mm long with bracts & bracteoles, purple flowers with 5-lobed calyx 8mm long with 4-5 4mm lobes, puberulent yellowish or greenish-white coroll. tube 5mm long with 3mm long lobes. Longitudinally striate fruit to 7mm long with fruiting calyx to 8mm x 3mm with 4-5 lobes to 20mm x 6mm.
