Scandent or erect annual herb with recurved prickles, green to red-brown 4-angled stems. Sagittate glabrous leaves to 80mm x 30mm, prickly on mid-nerve. Terminal or axillary capitate racemese to 150mm long or fascicles of up to 3 flowers, white to reddish flowers to 5mm, trigonous achenes, dark brown to black to 4mm long
