Tall climbing thicket-forming creeping dioecious rattan palm to 40m tall young stems with horizontal rows of spines to 20mm, spiny leaves to 5m long or more with thorny terminal extension to 1.5m, leaflets terminating in a tendril, leaflets 400mm x 30mm, male inflorescence a panicle with bracts rising from nodes of upper leaves, lobed calyx with 3 sepals 2mm long, 3 petals 2.5mm long, female inflorescence has flowers 10mm long with bracts, fruit 30mm x 25mm tipped black with black stigmas
