Tendril climbing subshrub or herb to 10m with winged tomentose stems. Leaves to 100mm x 35mm glabrescent above & tomentose beneath, with trifid tendril, 4-5 pairs of leaflets. Flowers to 80mm x 50mm long deep crimson or orange flowers with 6-7 series of tomentose phyllaries, 20-25 red ray florets to 40mm x 10mm, 90-100 disc florets with yellow bilabiate corolla to 15mm long. Glabrous achenes with pappus 30mm long.
