Herbaceous dioecious simple-tendril vine with glabrous or pubescent stems. Ribbed denticulate leaves scabrous above 45mm x 40mm, hairy above & on nerves beneath. Solitary axillary male flowers or inflorescence 40mm long yellow to 30mm long, kidney-shaped hooded bract just below flower, 8mm across, flowers 50mm across, calyx lobes 5mm x 3mm, corolla with 5 yellow petals 35mm x 15mm, female flowers solitary to 30mm. Fruit to 75mm long densely spiny
