Tendril climber, prostrate or scandent to 4m with tuberous root. 3-5 foliolate leaves, denticulate or sinuate-dentate leaflets to 130mm x 50mm, bifid tendrils. Male flowers in fascicles of 5-15mm with bract to 30mm long, pale yellow petals dark at base to 15mm long, female flowers to 11mm long. Orange-yellow spiny fruit, longitudinally winged to 60mm x 20mm

Leaves eaten as vegetable, used in washing clothes, fruits used for bird traps
