Herbaceous liana or shrub with woody stems, young branches with red-brown hairs, spiny branchlets. Leaves to 80mm x 30mm. White flowers tinged pink scented licorice when dried. Flower heads with bracts, tomentulose calyx. Edible fruiting yellowish-cream heads to 18mm diameter.
