Scandent shrub to 30m, tree or liana with young stems ferrugineo-puberulent becoming glabrescent, recurved spine to 10mm x 2mm. 13-33 foliolate leaves, leaflets to 25mm x 13mm, becoming glabrous above & puberulent or glabrous beneath. Terminal or axillary panicles with spinescent bracts & pubescent bracteoles to 2mm x 2mm. 10mm long purple or red & white flowers, pubescent to glabrous calyx 5mm x 3mm with lobes 1mm long, blue, purple, pink or pink & white petals. Lunate tomentulose brownish to grey fruit to 40mm x 13mm curved pods becoming glabrescent forming a circle 30mm diameter.
