Subglabrous slightly woody perennial twining tendril herb or creeper, pubescent stems, tuberous root. Trifoliolate leaves pubescent or glabrous above, pubescent beneath, central leaflet to 120mm x 60mm. Axillary 170mm long pseudo-racemes of 6-12 flowers with bracteoles of scented 30mm long white, red or mauve to violet flowers, sometimes spotted red with white or yellow, calyx 6mm, standard to 30mm x 25mm, pale violet whitish towards margins, wings 30mm x 10mm twisted enclosing pale violet keel darker at apex, sometimes pale yellow, with spiral beak. Fruit a puberulent pod to 150mm x 14mm with scabrous margins, sometimes falcate.
