Climbing rattan palm with spiny stems to 18m, leaves 4.2m long with sheath to 450mm long spiny near apex, up to 55 leaflets 125mm long x 12mm, spadix to 1.8m long with branches to 900mm & bracts, creamy yellow flowers with an unpleasant smell, calyx 4mm long corolla 8mm long with lobes 3mm wide, red-orange berry 12mm x 10mm, loses thorns on older stems
Stems cooked & eaten, split stems used in basketry, thatching, construction, furniture-making, medicinal uses, stems used for bow strings, ropes & cordage
