Liana, rattan with stems to 9m, leaves to 2.4m clothed with brownish tomentum with sheath 300mm long, 12mm spines along petiole & leaf margins, climbing or scrambling palm with very spiny leaf-sheaths, leaflets 300mm x 100mm in opposite clusters, spadix to 610mm long, flowers with calyx 4mm long & corolla 8mm long, red berry 12mm diameter
Used for drinks, water-sap, building materials, domestic items, stems sometimes used in binding
