Glabrous twiner, tuberous roots. 7-foliolate leaves with purplish petioles & middle nerve, leaflets to 50mm x 10mm. 3-5 flowered cymes with red sepals, exterior to 4.5mm wide, interior sepals to 5.5mm wide, scarlet or purple corolla to 60mm long, tube to 3.5mm x 7mm.

Root has medicinal uses (purgative)
