Tendril liana or climbing or sprawling glabrous shrub with crenate dentate glabrous leaves 75mm long, leaves dark green with prominent red veins, spiral tendrils. Scented cream or yellowish flowers to 2mm wide, petals 0.9mm long, in rusty tomentose terminal thyrses, glabrous or hairy calyx with brown lobes, white petals. Glabrous 3-winged fruit 1.7mm long, wings to 12mm wide.

Stems used for a beverage, stems contain saponin, used in dentifrices, used a gargle, medical, in Jamaica used as substitute for hops in beer-brewing. Used as fodder, medicinal uses, leaves used as soap
