Large spiny evergreen scandent or clambering shrub or small tree with lenticellate stems, spines to 15mm long. Coriaceous glabrous fleshy leaves to 110mm x 60mm, occasionally toothed or lobed. 70mm long lemon to orange-yellow slightly fragrant flowers tomentose without with yellowish to purple bracts in pendant terminal many-flowered cymes to 300mm long with mucronate dull red bracts to 30mm x 50mm, 4-5 dentate pubescent green calyx to 4mm x 3mm with lobes to 0.2mm, corolla to 55mm long with 4-parted limb 50mm wide. Yellow glabrous fleshy drupe to 25mm long, fruiting calyx to 100mm diameter.
