Tall tree-climber, stems with scattered spines, coriaceous leaves to 700mm x 20mm blackish-brown at base, reddish-brown inside with denticulate margins, leaf-sheath to 80mm long reddish-brown on outside aging black. Dull green inflorescence a spike to 200mm long x 20mm, erect terminal yellowish-green infructescences to 180mm long x 20mm, yellowish to red berry 5mm long, inflorescence leaf base yellow.
