Scrambling perennial herb to 1m, with striate hispid or puberulous stems. Triangular leaves to 55mm x 35mm with toothed margins, puberulous on veins. Lax panicles with bracts to 20mm long, flower heads 7mm high with about 30 bracts in 3-4 series to 3mm long, 17 florets per head, corollas violet to 2.5mm long, tube 0.5mm long, lobes 0.6mm long. Achenes to 2.7mm long with whitish pappus bristles to 3mm long.
