Stout glabrescent woody climber to 30m or more, with glabrescent young striate lenticellate twigs. Coriaceous leaves to 200mm x 65mm glabrous above except hairs on midrib & tomentose beneath. Axillary or t rminal or leaf-opposed cymes with clasping bract 6mm x 5mm of faintly scented flowers, triangular or ovate sepals to 8mm x 7mm tawny tomentose outside glabrous inside, coriaceous yellow or pink outer petals to 25mmx 9mm woolly hairy outside & tomentose inside, inner petals red becoming greyish 12mm x 5mm, greyish wool outside & brown pimply inside. Fruit 20mm diameter x 30mm long velvety light brown with broadly nippled apex.
