Large woody glabrescent climber or tree with terminal young twigs tawny tomentose, lenticellate glabrous branches. Coriaceous leaves 280mm x 120mm, glabrous above, red-brown woolly beneath on midrib & nerves. Axillary, terminal or leaf-opposed pubescent panicles with bract to 5mm x 3mm hairy outside. Racemes or cymes of sweetly scented orange-red tomentose 22mm flowers with small bracteole, orange base, glabrous brown outside, triangular sepals to 4mm x 4mm hairy outside, 6 petals, coriaceous outer petals to 15mm x 7mm red-brown hairy outside & brown woolly inside, inner petals to 8mm x 3mm more or less glabrous. 40mm x 30mm brown to black pubescent ridged fruit.
