Large climber with rusty-tomentose young twigs, glabrescent & lenticellater, coriaceous leaves to 210mm x 80mm glabrous above, rusty-villous beneath, terminal & leaf-opposed cymes with bracts, of rusty tomentose flowers, sepals rufous-lanate to 15mm long, coriaceous pink glabrescent petals, outer petals to 35mm long, inner petals smaller, rusty tomentose fruit 25mm diameter
