Glabrous perennial evergreen slender woody liana to 10m or tree with simple or bifid tendrils, lenticellate branches. Glabrous peltate leaves glaucous beneath to 250mm x 150mm, fetid when bruised. Axillary cymes, long racemes or corymbs to 150mm long of 5mm white to yellow-green flowers, 5-toothed calyx, 5 glabrous petals. Fruit a glaucous drupe to 40mm long, red, crowned by persistent bright red calyx lobes, when ripe splitting to reveal blue seeds.
