Spiny liana with stems to 15.2m, leaves 2.7m long with sheath to 300mm long, rachis terminating in spiny tendril, 23 leaflets each side, terminal leaflet to 350mm x 26mm, spadix to 600mm long with branches 125mm long & bracys 6mm long, clump-forming, axillary inflorescences, sweet-scented whitish flowers, loses thorns on older stems, polished ringed stems, fruit 32mm long
Used for basket & furniture weaving, fibre, fruit for elephant fodder, medicinal uses
