Tuberous woody twining vine with rhizome. Angular glabrous twining stems. Glabrate leaves to 130mm x 80mm. Axillary spikes to 200mm long, yellowish-green flowers, male flowers with 6 tepals to 3mm long, female flowers with 6 tepals to 6mm long with lobes 2mm long. 3-winged green capsule to 35mm x 20mm.

Cultivated for edible tubers. Stems & tubers used for arrow poison
