Tuberous glabrescent herbaceous prickly twiner with bulblets. 3-5 foliolate mucronate leaves 150mm x 45mm pubescent beneath, sparsely pubescent above, terminal leaflet to 85mm x 35mm. Axillary panicles or racemes to 500mm with bracts & up to 50 male flowers, lobes to 1.5mm, 1mm long pale greenish flowers, sepals glabrous or pubescent 1mm long to 1.5mm, glabrous petals, female flowers in spikes to 150mm long, flowers to 6mm x 2mm with bracts to 2.5mm & bracteoles to 1.5mm. Clockwise twiner with aerial tubercule. Herbaceous twiner with leathery glabrous fruit capsule maturing black to 25mm x 10mm, or sparsely hairy with 6mm wide x 20mm wings at 90ยบ
