Glabrous anticlockwise tuberous twiner with basally spiny stems, rarely aerial tubers, long cylindrical roots thick as a man's arm, mucronate leavesto 110mm x 90mm, axillary & terminal spikes or panicles males to 40mm long, female to 150mm long, red yam. Capsule with wings to 20mm x 22mm
