Shrub, erect to climbing or woody liane to 40m or tree with axillary or leaf-opposed solitary inflorescences with bracts to 10mm long of 60mm diameter strongly scented extra-axillary green or white pendulous flowers turning yellow with red marks on petal base, glabrous sepals to 10mm long, greenish-yellowclawed petals to 80mm long, needs shade to climb, glabrous or minutely pubescent yellow-brown 60mm long x 6mm villous 2-6 jointed fruit, glabrescent striate young branches, leaves glabrous above, hairy beneath to 130mm x 60mm
