Robust liane, woody twining shrub or bush to 5m, stems brown silky-villous lenticellate when young. Imparipinnate leaves 7-15 foliolate, coriaceous leaflets glabrescent both sides, terminal leaflet to 160mm x 50mm, pubescent leaflets, branches, peduncles, calyxes with ferrugineous villi. Axillary, rarely terminal racemes or fascicles to 300mm long with bracts to 2.5mm x 1.5mm of red, pink-violet to whitish flowers silky on back or white at tip with subtending bracts to 2.5mm x 2mm & bracteoles to 2.7mm x 2mm, flowers 17mm long, crimson at base, brown to darkish maroon calyx to 7mm with tube to 6mm & lobes to 2.5mm x 5mm, claw to 4mm, standard petal to 17mm x 17mm with green blotch at base, wings to 13mm x 5mm, keel to 11mm x 6mm, Fruit a flat winged legume to 110mm x 20mm with 2mm wide wing.
