Prostrate, erect or scandent perennial herb or subshrub with leaves to 100mm x 45mm pilose both surfaces, 3mm pale green, yellowish or purplish flowers in terminal & axillary spikes to 300mm long with bractlets to 1mm long, green or purplish perianth segments 2mm long ending in spines, segments of sterile flowers yellowish, up to 3 flowers & green fruit, a utricle to 0.5mm diameter
