Lofty glabrous woody twiner or scandent shrub to 10m, with lenticellate stems to 30m. Glabrous coriaceous leaves reticulated with brown beneath to 100mm x 47mm. Terminal corymbs or dichasial cymes of 90mm red-purple or pale mauve flowers white inside, (a white flowered form is known), 5-parted calyx, sepals to 15mm long, corolla to 60mm x 80mm with 5 lobes to 20mm long, twisted corolla tube 20mm long. Keeled paired fruit follicles green shading brown to 154mm long x 40mm.
