Large red-pubescent stemmed twining woody liana or sometimes scandent glabrous shrub or small tree with lenticellate branches. 3-7 foliolate glabrous or pubescent coriaceous leaves with 1-5 pairs of leaflets 250mm x 90mm. Terminal & axillary pubescent slender panicles or racemes to 350mm long with bracts & bracteoles 1mm long, white or lilac flowers 5mm long, 5 sepals to 4mm long red-villous on back dotted with red spots, glabrous or pubescent & glandular on front, 5 pink glabrous petals to 7mm long x 1mm pubescent inside with numeous red spots. Glabrescent fruit a lattened red beaked capsule 37.7mm x 20mm

Used in cottage industry - fruits reputed poisonous but may be boiled and eaten as jam, young leaves used as a vegetable
