Semi-scandent herbaceous shrub, red-brown stems to 1.2m pubescent at apex, glabrous below. Glabrous leaves in whorls of 4 to 45mm x 20mm, purple on back. Solitary axillary flowers with purple bracts to 8mm x 0.5mm, purple calyx to 21mm x 2mm, sparsely hirsute outside glabrous within, light yellow corolla with purple lobes inside, to 44mm x2.5mm at bas & 7mm at widest point, silky outside. Dark purple berry to 9mm x 4.5mm.
