Herbaceous villous perennial or annual evergreen woody twining slender climber with 5 to 7 foliolate puberulent imparipinnate leaves, leaflets to 50mm x 18mm. Solitary axillary 55mm purple-blue, pink, or white flowers with bracteoles to 12mm long, yellow-orange marked white centre, toothed calyx 18mm long, corolla to 36mm long, 25mm across throat, standard 50mm long with pale yellow base & centre. Fruit a glabrous brown flat beaked pod to 120mm long x 10mm. White flowered forms exist & white with blue edges & double forms
