Slender climber to 5m. Thickish leaves to 100mm long, entire, three-lobed or 3-foliolate. Inflorescence with bracts, 25mm reddish-purple flowers, glabrous reddish-purple thick calyx to 25mm long. Puberulent achenes to 8mm across with plumose style to 60mm long.
