Monoecious herbaceous vine with glabrous winged stem, simple or bifid tendrils. Trilobate dentate leaves to 150mm x 140mm with minute white spots, scabrous above. Solitary axillary male flowers cream-yellowish, fleshy, hairy toothed calyx 18mm long with triangular lobes to 5mm long, yellowish-white corolla, corolla tube 40mm x 50mm, inside lanate pubescent, opening at evening, petals to 25mm. Pale green, foul-smelling oval fruits maturing yellow-orange with longitudinal dark green bands, to 60mm x 45mm.
